Review: Kakooza’s solo goal sinks Busoga at Njeru

By Shafic Kiyaga

Onduparaka midfielder Rajab Kakooza’s first half goal was enough to earn his side victory on the road against Busoga United at the FUFA technical center, Njeru.

The victory was Onduparaka’s second win in three consecutive away games; they lost to Proline before picking up a routine 2-0 win over Express FC last week.

Their hosts went into the fixture buoyant, after defeating their rivals BUL FC in the Jinja derby on Wednesday.

Busoga could not find the inspired levels they showed against BUL, and were second best on the day as the caterpillars were presented with various chances to widen the gap, but failed to capitalize.

Caesar Okhuti came close to opening the scoring under 10 minutes of the game, the striker found himself in yards of space inside Busoga defence, but he failed to get enough behind the header to beat goalie Ali Kimera.

Ondu worked another opening in the 22nd minute, this time Joel Jangeyambe’s well driven effort drew a fine save from Kimera.

Okhuti was unlucky not to find the back of the net, his free kick left Kimera glued to the spot but was denied by the cross bar.

At the stroke of half time, there was no denying the visitors again as Kakooza put them ahead, connecting well with captain Gadaffi Wahab’s fantastic free kick.

The caterpillars were presented with another glorious opportunity to double their lead, Kakooza this time failed to capitalize after a well-executed counter attack between Okhuti, Vitalis Tabu and Jangeyambe

The hosts had a few chances to find the equalizer, but were easily dealt with by Onduparaka’s defence.

Second half substitute Abdul Lukwata caused a couple of nervous moments for Busoga, especially as Busoga pushed further forward in search of the leveler.

In the 83rd minute, he had the fans off their seats after some eye-catching dribble allowed him go past two Busoga defenders put his effort was matched by Kimera. Another superb dash by Lukwata through the middle allowed him through on goal but again there was no beating Kimera.

The victory pushes Onduparaka to second, a point behind leaders SC Villa with a game in hand over the leaders. Up next for them is a home tie against newcomers Wakiso Giants in Arua.
