By Football256 Team

Maroons and league leaders Vipers SC played out to a 1-1 draw at the Prisons Grounds Luzira, as both sides wrapped up their respective first round campaigns in the StarTimes Uganda premier league.

Maroons went ahead in at the stroke of the first half, striker Fred Amaku putting them ahead from a free kick. Fahad Bayodrew the hosts level in the 62nd minute, to salvage a point for the Venoms.

Vipers started the game with high momentum,  and with just five minutes into play, Allan Kayiwa’s cross found forward Abraham Ndugwa unmarked inside the area, but he couldnot direct his header on target.

Maroons also slowly creeped their way into the game, and started asking questions of Vipers, with relentless attacks.

Just over the half hour mark, the prison wardens were awarded a free kick just outside the area following a fast break, as Halid Lwaliwa brought down Amaku.

Amaku broke the deadlock in dying minutes of the first stanza, rebounding into the back of the net, after Vipers keeper Fabien Mutombora spilled the ball into the striker’s path.

Maroons went into the first half in the lead. The second stanza begun on the same note, with the hosts looking the better side.

Vipers coach Edward Golola called for a change at the hour mark, bringing on Denis Mwemezi for Allan Kayiwa who looked off key.

In the 62nd minute, Bayo drew Vipers level from the spot. Referee Nasser Muhammed who had made a number of contentious calls upto that moment made another one much to the awe of everyone in the stadium.

Maroons defender Martin Mpuuga was unfairly judged for handling the ball inside the area.

Maroons were then denied a clear penalty by the referee, after Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye brought down second half substitute Rashid Agau.
