Robert Mukongotya scored either side of the half time break as BUL FC’s dominance over Maroons FC continued with a 2-0 victory at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, but also took them top of the summit.
After winning five of the previous six fixtures between the two teams, the home team got off the blocks faster, and came within inches of scoring inside the opening 10 minutes but they failed to take any of their chances.
They continued pegging hard their opponents on the back foot, as they sought for an opener and eventually their efforts paid off in the 18th minute when Walter Ochora picked up Mukongotya inside the area, with the striker making no mistake to put BUL ahead in the game.
Peter Onen’s men kept knocking on the door for a second goal, but many of their chances wet begging. The hosts took a 1-0 lead into the second stanza, and continued dominating play.
The hosts introduced forward Hamis Tibita for Musa Esenu in the 50th minute, as they kept their dominance of the game, and eventually carried more threat in attack.
Maroons made two substitutions after the hour mark with Okot Felix paving way for Macmac Ashaba, while Tibita Laban was introduced for Abraham Tusubira as they searched for an equalizer, but in vain.
Mukongotya should have doubled BUL’s lead in the 80th minute, but he failed to connect with the ball as he was faced with an empty net.
Maroons who were one of the inform sides in the division heading into the game, kept high their hopes of finding the leveler as the end drew closer, but a heartbreak was on the horizon for them. Substitute Tibita picked up Mukongotya to bag his brace on the day and surely seal all three points for BUL.
A deserved win against Maroons, takes BUL to the summit of the 2019/2020 Star Times Uganda Premier League having collected 12 points out of five outings. Maroons’ three game winning start comes to an end, but they remain fourth on the log with nine points from five games.
