Robertinho happy to be proving doubters wrong

By Allan Damba

Fresh off winning the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Vipers SC head coach Roberto Oliveira ‘Robertinho’ has expressed delight, but also mocked everyone that had doubted his appointment.

Yunus Sentamu’s brace and a strike from Bright Anukani ensured that the Venoms beat Express FC 3-0, to confirm their fifth league trophy on Friday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

It was added to the ones clinched in 2010/11, 2015/16, 2017/18 and 2019/20.

The Brazilian was made head coach at the Kitende side ten months back, replacing Fred Kajoba, but a number of football enthusiasts cast doubt about whether he was the right person befitting the hot seat.

However, less than a year on, the tactician has accumulated two trophies including the league and the 2020/21 Stanbic Uganda Cup, which he won after demolishing BUL FC 8-1.

“When I had just joined here, many people doubted our credentials and strategies,” he started in a press conference after the game.

“We have surprised many people because then, they said I will be sent back to Brazil within no time, but we are now proving them wrong,” the joyous gaffer said.

“Ten months ago, when I had just come, I won the Uganda Cup with good results against Police FC and BUL , and now, we are champions again,” he added.

“I came here to be a champion and that will always be the objective. That’s what I have done everywhere I have been.”

Robertinho was also keen to make it a point that Vipers’ season is far from over, as they still have a Uganda Cup to chase, having stormed the semi-finals on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Wakiso Giants FC.

“Next after this, the objective is to be champions again in the Uganda Cup and we shall fight for it,” the defiant coach roared.

In winning this campaign’s championship, the Kitende outfit will represent Uganda in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League.
