Newly appointed Simba sports club head coach Roberto Oliviera is set to make his Tanzania premier league bow on Wednesday.
The Brazilian tactician who was appointed early this month after a one and a half year spell with Vipers will lead Msimbazi on Wednesday when they host Mbeya City at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium.
Simba returned from a week long training camp in Dubai where they played two friendly games against Russia’s CSKA Moscow and UAE’s Al Dahfra FC with both games ending in draws, 2-2 and 1-1 respectively.
Speaking after Simba’s 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow, Roberto maintained he was still getting to know the players more but so far so good.
“I have been here for five days but I am happy about my group, For me, the second half was amazing because it was a good opportunity for young players and also experiment players to get a good balance,” he told club media.
However, the Brazilian tactician was also impressed with the character of the team after they fought from 2-0 down to manage a draw: “Today Simba showed everyone the capacity of the Champions League.
“Our opponent was good today but I am so happy about two or three players who came on in the second half because they had a new mentality.”
“They understood my philosophy for Simba of being very quick. I want to build a strong team and have a new philosophy for the champions league,” he noted.
Roberto Oliviera’s immediate task will be to play catch up to archrivals and table leaders Yanga sports club.
The ‘Wanainchi’ who are also the defending league champions are nine points clear of Simba although the former has a game in hand.
