Moments after their comfortable 2-0 Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal victory against Police FC, Vipers SC head coach Roberto Oliveira alias Robertinho expressed delight at the way his team is adjusting to his game philosophy having not spent much time with the lads.

A brace from Congolese striker Caesar Manzoki ensured the Venoms secured a spot in the final thanks to their dominant display in a match played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

In all fairness, the Kitende side passed the ball around with precision, pressed high and battered the woeful Cops in every department of the game, much to the Brazilian’s satisfaction.

“I am very happy for today because it is not very easy having prepared for just 15 or 20 days for such a big game,” said the eloquent Robertinho to the press shortly after the game.

“Vipers is a big club and so, our objective is to develop a new philosophy of football. It is not easy for me and my staff, my assistant Marcelo (Cardoso) but I am happy the players have given me a good answer about the philosophy,” he added.

Pressed about his kind of philosophy, Robertinho made mention; “We have to keep the ball, possess it and not accept to lose it in the final third. It is my objective that the team creates as many chances as possible.”

Despite the ruthlessness exhibited offensively, the 68 year-old refuses to get carried away as he believes his side had flaws that will require ironing out for further improvement.

“But, I have to prepare my team to play together (as a unit), we can not continue leaving spaces between the defence, midfield and attack,” he added.

“It is my job to improve that and we need time to build that. I believe after one month we shall be better with everyone well aware of my approach,” he buoyantly assured.

He however seemed not bothered about the wastefulness of his forwards with the goal in sight stressing that his team was a work in progress and that things were to improve.

“I am not worried about our not being clinical in front of goal since this was the first competitive match. Caesar (Manzoki) scored twice, we created big chances and I am happy for that.”

The final scheduled for this Sunday, September 26 provides the Venoms with a glorious opportunity to win silverware and an opportunity to make it two Uganda Cups in their rather short history.

They earned their first coming Uganda Cup trophy after a convincing 3-0 victory against the then league debutants Onduparaka FC in 2016.

Joint record holders Express FC (on ten along with KCCA) will take on BUL FC on Thursday, September 23, in the other semifinal to determine the other team to claim the final spot in the finals.
