Mohammed Salah said good bye to 2018 as the best football on the African Continent after the CAF Awards that were held in Dakar Senegal on Tuesday night.
Salah beat his Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane from Senegal together with Gabon and Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the award.
“I have always dreamt of winning this award from a young age, now I have won it twice,” Salah said in his acceptance speech.
“I want to dedicate this award to my teammates, the people of Egypt, my family and fans,” he added.
Salah top scored in the English Premier League inspiring Liverpool to a top four finish before guiding them to the finals of the Champions where they lost to Real Madrid.
He scored five goals for Egypt in the World Cup qualifiers, guiding them to the finals in Russia for the first time in 28 years.
Salah, Mane, Aubameyang and a host of other African Stars joined Ugandan skipper and goalkeeper Denis Onyango in the Africa Best XI.
Nigeria for winning the Total Women Africa Cup of Nations and Mauritania for qualifying for their first ever Total Africa Cup of Nations were voted the female and Male teams of the year respectively.
For guiding South Africa to second place at the Women Africa Cup of Nations, Desiree Ellis was voted African Women’s Coach of the Year 2018. Frenchman Herve Renard was voted the male coach of the year.
The Teasema award (president award) was scooped by Moroccan FA president Fouzi Lekjaa while his countryman who also plays for Brossia Dortmund in Germany Achraf Hakimi was named African Youth Player of the Year.
South African Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana won the goal of the year award beating Ugandan striker Derrick Nsibambi.
She also beat the Nigerian duo of Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega to the female player of the year award.
Nigeria – Female National Team of the Year.
Mauritania – Male National Team of the Year.
Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund) – Young Player of the Year.
Desiree Ellis – Woman Coach of the Year.
Herve Renard – Male Coach of the Year.
Thembi Kgatlana – Goal of the Year.
Thembi Kgatlana – Woman Player of the Year.
