Sfaxien foresee tough challenge from Vipers in Tunisia

By Clive Kyazze

Sfaxien coach Ruud Krol got close to admitting how his side survived at St Mary’s Stadium after their barren draw with Vipers in their first leg of the 2018/2019 Total CAF Confederation Cup play  off on Saturday.

Vipers were the better side in so many ways for the 90 minutes, the only missing element of their game was finding the back of the next.

And not that they misfired or squandered their chances, Sfaxien goalkeeper Dahmen Aymen would have easily walked away with the man of the match award if there was any.

“It was a tough close game, Vipers were very hungry and we were lucky not to concede,” Krol told www.football-256.com before adding.

“I thought we also had chances but didn’t do well in execution, maybe because the artificial turf was also a problem to us because we play on natural grass.”

From Noah Wafula, Daniel Muzeyi Sserunkuma, Moses Waiswa, Tito Okello to Tadeo Lwanga, Vipers had clear cut chances to bury the game but it didn’t happen.

“Our goal keeper had a good game, he really kept us in the game and it’s a good result we take back to Tunisia where we also expect a tough game from Vipers,” the former Dutch international added.

Before the game, Krol had revealed how they had done their homework about Vipers despite their seeing them play at home.

“We know Vipers very well, we saw them play against Constantine in Algeria, but we had never seen them play at home. We know they changed coaches and changed philosophy but we knew our opponents very well,” he said.

In the return leg, any scoring draw will see Vipers advance to the group stages of the 2018/2019 Total CAF Confederation Cup Group stages, for the first time in their history.
