Despite signing for Vipers SC over a year ago, 22 year old Muhammad Shaban is yet to feature for the Venoms.

He’s however in line for his first outing with his club, in their first league match of the 2020/2022 Startimes Uganda Premier League season, take on Wakiso Giants tomorrow at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakisha.

According to the club’s website, the 2016 FUFA Footballer of the year has fully recovered after undergoing a knee surgery. The injury has ruled him out of action since April 2019.

The goal-poacher was signed in August 2019 following an unsuccessful year with Moroccan and continental giants, Raja Casablanca.

His move to North Africa had come after hugely impressive spells with KCCA FC and home based, Onduparaka. There’s absolutely no doubting the youngster’s talent and ability especially with the net in sight.

However, questions have time and again been raised about his discipline and attitude. A chance to revive his career is seemingly not far, with tomorrow’s fixture a huge opportunity.

Shaban will however have to battle for a slot in the team’s first 11 as there is a stiff fight for positions up top.

The Kitende based powerhouse heavily recruited in the summer to add to their already star-studded front-line.

The likes of veteran, Dan Sserunkuma, new boy, Lobi Manzoki, Abraham Ndugwa, Yiga Najib, Milton Karisa, Umar Kyebatala among others, are all ready to give the former Onduparaka forward a run for his money for a spot.

The league defending champions who a week ago suffered elimination from the CAF Champions League at the hands of Sudan colossus Al Hilal, have an almost clean injury slate.

A number of players are available for selection in their maiden of the season. They only have two major injuries to lightening-quick, Allan Kayiwa and forward, Umar Kyebatala.

Head coach, Fred Kajoba and his boys will be hopeful to kickstart their title defence with a bang against the Purple Sharks.

Last season the fixture which produced no goal had referee Shamirah Nabadda’s controversial red card to ex Venoms forward, Fahad Bayo as the only highlight at the same ground.
