It seems like Uganda Cranes and Onduparaka FC forward Muhammad Shaban has learnt from his mistakes made in Morocco a few years ago.

Shaban joined Raja Casablanca in 2018 from KCCA FC but he only lasted a year in North Africa due to several challenges: some were personal while others, as reported, were attached to the club itself.

He returned home and joined Vipers SC in 2019 and following a host of other challenges he was released by the Kitende-based side and he went back to his boyhood club Onduparaka in 2021.

A move from Vipers to Onduparaka paid off for Shaban who finished the 2021/2022 StarTimes Uganda Premier League with 15 goals only three goals adrift of Cesar Manzoki of Vipers who bagged 18 goals.

His performance last season also earned him a call-up back to the Uganda Cranes team and he also now wants to go back overseas in the professional ranks.

“I am a changed man now because when I went to Morocco, I had not matured yet, but at least now I am a different Shaban,” he opened up as quoted by the FUFA website.

“You know those deals come with a lot of challenges; you become homesick, new food, different weather.”

“I got an injury which also frustrated me and I had to request for my release to come back home and rebuild myself.”

“I was not patient enough, but I have learnt a lot so any deal which comes through I will make sure I do not repeat the same mistakes,” Shaban added.

Besides his conduct, reports had it that he was dropped to the Raja Casablanca reserve team and the club van would no longer pick him up from his apartment for training.

Reports further indicated that Shaban was later evicted from the apartment because the club was no longer paying for his rent.

Shaban signed a one-year contract with Onduparaka which means he is a free agent and can join a new club.

However, concerning his situation on his return to the club, Shaban has always said that Onduparaka and his agent (Sepuya Agency) will come to terms on what next.
