Shs120M in cash prizes for the Uganda Cup winners

By Football256 Team

The 2018/2019 Stanbic Uganda Cup will have Shs120M shared among the participating teams compared to Shs90M that was shared amongst teams last season.

The winner of this year’s competition will walk away with Shs40M compared to last season when they pocketed Shs30M. The losing finalist will pocket Shs20M, just like last season each semifinalist will walk away with Shs10M.

Quarter finalists and those whose journey will end at the round of 16 will pocket Shs5m and Shs2.5M each respectively.

This was revealed at the round of 64 draw held at Serena Hotel on Monday morning by Stanbic Bank’s Sonia Karamagi together with the FUFA president Moses Magogo.

“For Stanbic bank to sponsor this competition is a sign of confidence because it is risky to such entities which focus much on losses,” Magogo told journalists.

“This is a great milestone towards the development of Uganda’s football. Football would be useless without stake holders,” he added.

It’s the second straight year that the bank will be sponsoring the tournament that started way back in 1970 and currently has KCCA FC and Express as the joint record holders on 10 each.

“Sports world over is not just a recreational activity, it contributes to economic development through job creation, skills development, infrastructural investments and business growth,” Karamagi told journalists.

“This is why Stanbic bank is partnering with FUFA to grow football through the Stanbic Uganda Cup and we look forward to an exciting and competitive season,” she said.
