The saying goes: ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed’, and in such trying moments where the COVID-19 pandemic has turned society on its head, it calls for much reason to credit one who lends a helping hand.

It’s with the same spirit that Kampala based Soccer Stars Academy Uganda held a successful social drive through their local area undertaking activities such as general cleaning while they also gifted up to 50 families with Christmas gifts and humpers.

The players together with their parents moved around five zones in Mengo including Kassato, Kakajjo, Mengo Hill, Lubiri Triangle and Church Area.

According to the academy Director Isaac Ogong, the drive was intended to appreciate the community and also help create awareness about sanitation and benefits of football to the society.

“I am so glad that we have carried out community cleaning in our area of residence to ensure that we stay in a clean environment and promote sanitation in the young boys at the academy,” Ogong told Football256.

“On top of that we have managed to serve a number of items that can be used at home like posho, rice, sugar and clothes in a spirit of brotherhood with our neighbours.”

“This is an annual drive that we do every December because we always celebrate by sharing the little we have with the less privileged so that they also have Christmas with a smile.”

“On the other hand, this act imparts a helping heart within the boys which helps them grow up with the values of kindness,” Ogong concluded.

On asking what the drive meant for the players the Captain Soccer Stars Academy’s U-15, Mike Ssimbwa had this to say;

“On December 19, we started cleaning the neighbouring areas to our training ground and we also pushed a hand of help to 50 families as a way of giving back to community for the support and building a spirit of brotherhood within the family.”

Soccer Stars Academy Uganda started its operations in 2013 with the academy’s official registration coming a year later on October 26, 2014 under the Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA).
