Wakiso Giants FC midfielder Titus Ssematimba gave credit to his national team teammates after he was crowned the Player of the Month for November at the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards.
Ssematimba was rewarded for his brilliant performance as the Uganda Hippos defended the CECAFA U-20 title in Sudan at a tournament where he was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
“First things first, I would like to express how joyful I am upon receiving this award,” Ssematimba told www.football256.com at the ceremony held at Garden City in Kampala on Saturday.
“I am delighted that I have been recognized because it is moments like that that motivate you to do better.”
“But I would like to also thank my teammates who all together put up a strong performance in Sudan and ensured that we returned home with the trophy.”
“We are in the good hands of coach Jackson Mayanja who has played a big role and I am confident that we shall carry the same performance into the Africa Cup of Nations,” the soft-spoken youngster added.
Ssematimba scored twice at the tournament in a 2-0 win over Tanzania at the start of the competition and in the final during a 2-1 win over South Sudan where he scored the winning goal.
To win the award, he shrugged off competition from his teammate at the club level Ibrahim Kasule and Vipers SC’s Yunus Sentamu.
At the same ceremony, for his immense talent during his playing days, Mayanja was rewarded with the Lifetime Achievers Award.
Besides football, six other categories were also rewarded and these are; real superstar, basketball, golf, hockey, netball, and Ludo.
