Ssenkaaba, Sserwadda, Komakech nominated for Real Star February Award

Express FC forward George Ssenkaaba and two Uganda U-20 players goalkeeper Jack Komakech and midfielder Steven Sserwadda are the nominees for the Fortebet Real Star Sports Awards for the month of February.

Ssenkaaba has become an important figure in Wasswa Bbosa’s team since joining newbies Kitara FC at the start of the current season.

He has scored six goals for the Wankulukuku based side and he is the club’s leading goal scorer this term, impressively scoring five goals in February as Express has won four of their six games last month.

The striker singlehandedly determined the results against URA FC when he scored the only goal of the game as Express won 1-0 in each of the two games.

He was also on target twice as Express beat MYDA 4-1, also scored in the 4-0 win against BUL and against Wakiso in a 3-0 win over the weekend.

Komakech and Sserwadda who are currently with the Uganda Hippos at the Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania are the other two nominees.

Both are having a good performance so far with Komakech keeping two clean sheets already in the opener against Mozambique and in the quarter-finals against Burkina Faso.

The goalkeeper was the Hippos’ hero when he saved Yacouba Djiga’s spot-kick for the Hippos to qualify for the semi-finals at the expense of the Young Stallions.

While Sserwadda has also been equally important to Morley Byekwaso’s side scoring two goals at the tournament already against Mozambique and also as Uganda beat hosts Mauritania 2-1 in their last group game.

The KCCA FC youngster was amongst the five players who netted their penalties as Uganda edged Burkina Faso 5-3 in post-match penalty shout outs after a goalless draw in normal time.

They will once again be players to watch as debutants Uganda take on Tunisia in the semi finals on Monday, March 1. In the other semi final, Gambia will tussle it out with Ghana on the same day.

Former URA midfielder Saidi Kyeyune who now plays for Sudan giants El Merrick hold the Award after winning it for the month of January.

Athletics and Badminton are the other categories to be awarded. World champions Joshua Cheptegei, Honsea Kiplangat and Peruth Chemutai will are the nominees in the athletics category.

Fadilah Shamika, Husina Kobugabe and Brian Kasirye will vie for the badminton award.
