Yunus Ssentamu bagged a brace for a second game running as Vipers SC beat Kitara FC 3-0 on Friday evening in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Ssentamu is steadily refinding his former self since making a return to boyhood club Vipers as the double at the Masindi Municipal Stadium took his tally for the season to 10 goals.
Despite missing the initial stages of the current season, Ssentamu is now joint league top scorer with URA FC’s Steven Mukwala. He has racked up 12 across all competitions.
After Kitara had put up a spirited opening half an hour, Ssentamu broke the deadlock in incredible fashion off Ibrahim Orit’s equally glorious delivery to kick-start a superb day at office.
Ssentamu would then make it four goals in a space of less than a week to his name, slotting past Kitara’s custodian Ivan Akera after 63 minutes from the penalty spot.
The visitors turned on more heat with substitute Paul Mucureezi whistling a fine free kick into the top corner in the 73rd minute to wrap up a dominant away victory.
Fred Kajoba’s boys head back to Kitende knowing they still hold their league table lead, albeit by a now familiar delicate margin courtesy of a better goal difference over URA FC.
They sit joint top on the log with 42 points alongside URA who also were on the winning side as they defeated BUL Bidco FC 3-1 in Jinja.
Vipers welcome struggling Wakiso Giants next on Tuesday, April 20.
Kitara on the other side are only living by the day with relegation only a formality. They remain rock bottom with just five points after 18 matches. Their next outing is against title chasers Police FC on Tuesday.
