Vipers SC star forward Yunus Ssentamu has come out to claim last season’s achievements that included winning the golden boot did not come as a surprise.
The 26-year-old topped the scoring charts with 16 goals in just 22 games ahead of Express FC forward Eric Kambale who had 15.
Despite joining Vipers after the start of the 2020/21 season including missing the first four games, the shirt 12 managed to beat his fellow marksmen to the gong that also came with a UGX1M token from StarTimes.
“I thank Vipers for giving me a second chance but this has not come as a shock because I have been scoring goals since I was a boy and through my high school,” expressed a buoyant Ssentamu.
He further attributed the prestigious prize to his fallen godfather Peter Ssebulime who nurtured him from a boy to a good striker.
“I wish coach Peter(Ssebulime) was here to witness this because he gave me the first chance, believed in me and made me the person I am today.”
The former AS Vita, KF Tirana and IIves striker also confirmed he is staying with the Venoms despite approaches from abroad.
“I have a contract with Vipers so I am staying, there’s no doubt about that. There will always be approaches but I am staying.”
Ssentamu burst on the scene at the 2014 CHAN in South Africa after notching three goals in four matches getting himself suitors from across the continent.
