It’s a rare occurrence for any player to leave a lasting impression on another especially when they play together at their peak.
Brian Umony, a striker with Proline and Uganda Cranes could have played for up to seven clubs across three continents but believes Kyetume FC striker Robert Ssentongo and former Cranes forward and skipper Geoffrey Massa are the strikers he’d comfortably play alongside if he had the again opportunity.
“For the time I have played as a forward, Robert Ssentongo and Geoffrey Massa stand out. Robert’s work rate is unmatched while Massa has all the experience as a forward,” Umony told Football256.
Umony has played with both forwards at different stages of his career, in the 2007/08 season, the 2008 MVP then a rookie in the league went on to score 15 goals finishing as joint top scorer.
But it was his partnership with Robert Ssentongo that was the talk of town as they guided the Lugogo side to their eighth league title then.
The 2009 KCCA CAF Champions League run can’t go unnoticed as KCCA went on to eliminate Denis Onyango’s Supersport and Ferroviaro Maputo (Madagascar).
Although they didn’t make the group stages, Umony’s four goals along with Ssentongo’s two made the partnership unstoppable.
Brian Umony’s club form attracted national team call ups where he played alongside Geoffrey Massa, the two guided the Uganda Cranes to the 2009 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title.
The duo scored Uganda Cranes’ first two goals during the 2017 AFCON qualification campaign as Uganda beat Botswana 2-0 at Namboole.
