Thirteenth on the 15 team log of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and a point adrift of the relegation zone is not a position any coach would be proud about.
UPDF FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo describes the team’s first round performance in the league as tough but with exceptions.
“Of course, it was difficult for us as a team because alot was happening,” Ssenyondo revealed to Football256 before adding.
“First, we had four players summoned to the U20 qualifiers in Sudan but also I was pursuing my CAF B so we didn’t have enough time as a team together and that affected us.”
The quartet of Rogers Mugisha, Abbas Kyeyune, Jimmy Mukisa and Samson Kasozi missed the better part of the first round due to national team duties.
Ssenyondo insists a few changes must be made ahead of the start of the second round to avoid the drop.
“We have already started preparing for the second round but also, we shall have to boost our squad a bit with at least five new players.”
“I am on the lookout and when we are good to go, we shall let you know,” he noted.
UPDF FC managed only 10 points in 14 games, picking up two wins along with eight losses and four draws. The Bombo based outfit has also shipped in the most number of goals (26).
Ssenyondo’s side will kick off the second round away to Express at Wankulukuku Stadium on 11th February 2023.
