Ugandan prodigy and former KCCA FC midfielder Steven Sserwadda has officially been unveiled as a New York Redbull II player on a two year USL Championship contract after more than a month since the move was made public knowledge.

Sserwadda left the Kasasiro Boys towards the end of July 2021 to finalize the much anticipated switch but the confirmation by the American club had to wait till October.

This official announcement was made by the club on Wednesday, October 6 and the statement on their respective social media platforms read; “New York Red Bulls II have signed midfielder Steven Sserwadda to a USL Championship contract.”

The club further confirms through the statement that Sserwadda’s signing was completed prior to the championship roster freeze last day of Friday
October 1.

“We feel Steven is going to fit in really well,” the head coach John Wolyniec said in an interview with the club’s media team.

“He is an industrious, very active and engaged player. We think he’s a good fit for what we’re trying to do, and we hope that we can get him going here as soon as possible.”

Upon putting pen to paper, Sserwadda also had his two cents about the move, how he felt that it was now done and dusted and how ready for the challenge he was.

“I am excited to be here, it’s a great facility, great team, and it’s a good thing that we are all in the same age category. I can’t wait to start playing with this team.”

It is important to recall that the 19-year-old artist bid farewell to KCCA FC fans and management in July 2021 after what was believed to be a big money deal.

His departure was in the aftermath of their uncharacteristic and somewhat disappointing display at the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament. KCCA had gone there as defending champions.

He was also an integral figure for the Uganda U20 Hippos team that made the final of the U20 AFCON in Mauritania, an exciting tournament never mind the fact that they eventually lost 2-0 to Ghana in the last game of the competition.

There is absolutely no doubt that Sserwadda will bring competition for positions at his new club especially because of his immense talent and hard work.
