The announcement of Sam Ssimbwa as Maroons FC’s new head coach is imminent and he will take over from Muhammad Ssenfuma.
Ssimbwa has been out of football management for a full season and a half given that he parted ways with URA FC ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Football256 understands that his predecessor Ssenfuma was relieved of his duties at the end of the first round although the club never made it public knowledge.
An effort from this reporter to pick Ssenfuma’s mind about Maroons’ first-round performance and preparations for the second round did not get a response as the coach shied away from the call – an indication that he was no longer holding the position.
Ssenfuma guided the Prison Warders back to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after two seasons given that they were relegated at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
During his reign, Maroons finished in the 10th position on the 15-team SUPL log with 15 points from 14 games.
His successor’s ultimate task will be to help the Luzira-based outfit to avoid the drop when the second round commences in February.
Maroons will be on the road in Jinja to take on strugglers Busoga United FC on February 10th.
Ssimbwa’s first game in charge could be against Kampala Region side Kisugu FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on February 1st.
