Uganda Premier League sides Express FC and URA FC will face off for the third time this season when the former hosts the latter in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 first leg at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.
Both previous meetings between the two teams were in the Premier League. Express were victors on both occasions; 3-1 and 1-0 home and away respectively.
And while speaking during his pre-match interview with the club’s media, Express head coach Wasswa Bbosa noted that it will not be easy to defeat URA for the third time this season, but they will give it a shot.
“Following our league win over Onduparaka FC on Wednesday, we have focused on the cup fixture against URA, this will be the third time for us to meet and we respect them,” Bbosa said.
“The two wins we got over them were not simple. This game will not be any easier, so we have concentrated on scoring goals and emphasizing to the players to be focused throughout the game,” he added.
Express are the only team that has beaten URA this season with Sam Ssimbwa’s charges at the helm of the UPL with 47 points, one above Vipers SC and four ahead of Express.
The Tax Collectors have won four of their last six games, their latest being a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City FC at home and will build on such a performance when they take on the Red Eagles on Saturday.
“We had taken two games minus winning but the win motivated us. The players are in the mood,” Ssimbwa told the club’s media after the game on Tuesday.
“I can not guarantee that we are going to win against Express, but the English say ‘what man has done, man can do’ so they beat us twice in the league. We can also beat them twice in the Uganda Cup.”
En route to the Round of 16, Express defeated Kyetume FC 3-2 on aggregate. URA were 1-0 aggregate winners over Mbarara City.
Bbosa will be without players like Arthur Kiggundu, Abel Etrude and George Senkaaba due to injury.
Defender Issa Lumu is back from suspension but will sit out Saturday’s game due to a fever.
Eric Kambale scored a brace against Onduparaka in the league on Wednesday and should be one of the players Express will rely on.
On the other hand, URA will hope that both Cromwell Rwothomio and Steven Mukwala are fit for the game after missing out on Tuesday.
