Stanbic Uganda Cup: FUFA maintains 2020/21 licenses, good or bad news?

Vipers SC, Express FC, Police FC and BUL FC all made it to the last four of the domestic Cup that is slated to be played at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru between September 21 and 22.

Uganda’s football governing body (FUFA) has confirmed that the 2020/21 player licenses will keep in play for the remaining semifinals and final fixtures of the yet to be concluded Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Vipers SC, Express FC, Police FC and BUL FC all made it to the last four of the domestic Cup that is slated to be played at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru between September 21 and 22.

The federation has come out to clarify the issue of player licensing that had been unanswered during the announcement of the new semifinal dates.

“Licenses for the 2020-2021 season will be considered and all the technical team should have bench permits,” revealed Hajjat Aisha Nalule, the FUFA Competitions Director via the FUFA website on Tuesday, September 14.

This could however prove to be devastating news for the new recruits in each camp as they will not have a chance to help their sides clinch glory.

Signings like Jack Komakech for Vipers and Joel Mutakubwa, Deus Bukenya, Joseph Akandanwaho along with Nicholas Kasozi, all for Express FC will miss out on the action.

The same should not entirely affect the teams though since the remaining sides have not actively participated in the transfer business. They have almost maintained last season’s squads apart from some few departures.

Police have not publicly made any new signings but BUL have made over 13 signings, the Venoms have secured one whereas the Red Eagles almost have the exact squad, save for the four incomings.

Nalule also used the platform to confirm that FUFA secured all the Covid-19 tests for all players and officials of the remaining teams.

“FUFA will take care of the COVID-19 tests for all the 20 players and five officials per club. All clubs will be tested at their respective venues,” the statement read.

“The other officials (organizing committee) and referees will also be tested by the FA. The players and officials’ list should be submitted to the FUFA Competitions Department, the deadline for this being Friday, September 17, 2021,” she summed.

The last four will have Police FC take on Vipers SC while Express FC lock horns with BUL FC for a spot in the final.
