SC Villa is one foot into the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals after defeating Onduparaka in the last 16 first leg game played Saturday at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium-Arua.
The contest between the two teams is now more convenient for SC Villa, as Onduparaka will endure the long trip from Arua to try to overturn the 1-0 deficit in Kampala.
The first half produced no clear chances as both sides played way more conservatively, but Faizo Kazibwe handed Villa the advantage in the tie with two minutes left on the clock.
Such Kazibwe’s heroics are becoming a part of his SC Villa story. Kazibwe recently scored late in the 85th minute to secure a win for The Jogoo in a league match against stubborn MYDA in February.
Onduparaka’s lost striker Jamal Malish through injury after 18 minutes. The Caterpillars see their woes continue as they have lost their last five games, including four league games.
The Jogoo form in the competition is getting better with every stage. SC Villa had to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Ndejje University, eventually winning on a 4-1 aggregate to get through to the last 16.
