The StarTimes Uganda Premier League record champions SC Villa will get their 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup underway in the Round of 64 against Kampala Region side Kireka United FC at Kings Park on Wednesday.
Villa who have won the Uganda Cup nine times previously were knocked out from the quarterfinals by eventual winners BUL FC last season.
“It has been a while now since we last played a competitive game and the Uganda Cup game against Kireka will be a perfect test for our players,” Villa head coach Jackson Magera said ahead of the game.
“We broke off in what I would call a fair run of form in the league and we want to see the response of the players.”
“The Uganda Cup provides us with a perfect chance to win silverware I know it is still in the initial stages but we shall not take the game against Kireka for granted,” he noted.
The 16-time champions of the SUPL last won the Uganda Cup in 2015 which is eight years ago.
Meanwhile, FUFA Big League outfit Police FC will visit North Eastern outfit Apuutun FC at Tubur Primary School in Soroti in the early kickoff.
Last season, the Cops were ejected by Eastern Regional League side Mbale Heroes FC in the Round of 32.
