Stanbic Uganda Cup: Ten-man Ndejje shock Villa

FUFA Big League side Ndejje University FC pick up a vital first leg 1-0 advantage over SC Villa at the Bombo Military Barracks Grounds in Stanbic Uganda Cup that got underway on Easter Monday with the Round of 32.

The visitors had a vibrant start to the game posing threats in front of the host’s goal on a number of occasions.

And having pressed so hard for the opener, Ndejje’s dominance paid off in the 37th minute when Brian Ssali nodded in George Akena’s cross.

Edward Kaziba who went into the encounter with a full-strength squad was surely unhappy with what he saw from his side after 45 minutes.

But his team talk at half time must have awoken a couple of heads as the Jogoo returned stronger for the second half, but while they came close a couple of times, a leveller remained elusive.

Even with Ndejje reduced to 10-men after 65 minutes following Nicholas Luzige’s red card, SC Villa failed to master a way of getting back into the game adding to a frustrating evening for the Jogoo.

The nine-time winners will be looking forward to overturning this result when the two sides meet again in the second leg of this tie on Sunday, April 11 at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.
