Mbarara City FC head coach Sadiq Ssempigi believes that his side was the better team despite losing to Vipers SC at Kakyeka on Wednesday.

The Venoms edged the Ankole Lions 2-1 in the first leg of the Uganda Cup semifinals, thanks to goals from Paul Mucureezi and Milton Karisa in the first half.

Ssempigi’s charges got their consolation through substitute Seiri Arigumaho in the latter stages of the game.

“We started the game very well with a lot of determination and that continued throughout especially in the second half,” Ssempigi told Football256.

“The two goals we conceded were in five minutes to halftime, so, I think that is where we lost a bit of concentration and against such a strong team, it is in those moments that you get punished.”

“But, we had a good second half generally and we scored an important goal. Yes, we lost the game at home but it would have been difficult had we lost 2-0,” he added.

The two sides will meet again in a week for the second leg at Kitende and the winner on aggregate will advance to the final.

“We have something to build on when we go to Kitende next week and I am optimistic that we can still eliminated them.”

“All we need to do is to play the way we did today [Wednesday] and also be careful in our own half,” Ssempigi noted.

The winner of this tie on aggregate will face the victor between BUL FC and Booma FC in the final.

The Oil Manufacturers hold a 5-1 win away from home and the two side will also meet next week at Kyabazinga Stadium for the second leg.
