The battle about who clinches the belated 2021 edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup hits climax this Sunday, September 26 when Vipers SC lockhorn with BUL FC at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Vipers SC approach this game with a quest for what will be their second honour in history following their most recent in 2016 that came at the expense of Onduparaka FC who they thumped 3-0 at Nakivubo stadium.

To get themselves in a position of being favourites, the Venoms dominated and comfortably beat Police FC with a 2-0 semifinal scoreline, courtesy of Caesar Manzoki’s brace on Tuesday.

It was the first win for head coach Roberto Oliveira alias Robertinho since taking over power in the technical department at Kitende, he will be anxious to start his tenure with silverware.

Meanwhile, BUL will be hoping to secure their maiden trophy in the coveted tournament and in the event that these wishes come to pass, it will be their first piece of silverware at any level.

Owen Mukisa’s strike was enough to shock and show Express FC the exit in Thursday last week’s second semifinal. The spot in the final will be cherished regardless of what the outcome will be.

Head coach Alex Isabirye Musongola has been so vocal and loud enough in warning his opponents about his team’s readiness and how their attitude was not one of a scared team.

“We all know finals are won, not played,” BUL’s Isabirye told the media shortly after beating Express, he also added.

“So we are going to win the game on Sunday. My opponent has had enough time to rest and even monitor our team play but that will not worry me at all.”

That said, it is important to note that the Venoms have absolutely dominated this fixture previously, winning eleven and losing just twice of their last sixteen encounters.

They have also won all the last five affairs, most recently during the 2020/21 season when Yunus Sentamu’s lone goal was enough to carry the Kitende side to a 1-0 victory.

Robertinho is spoilt for choice, boasting of a huge squad with quality all over the place. Manzoki who is the competition’s top scorer on six goals is yet again expected to lead the line with 2020/21 league top marksman Sentamu.

BUL on the other hand have been dealt a big blow of having to use a very thin squad.

According to FUFA, clubs can only use last season’s licensed players implying that Isabirye can not use his new recruits as seen against Express FC, where the Jinja side had to make do with only two substitutes on the bench.
