Wakiso Giants FC were left frustrated by the water-filled Bombo Military Barracks Grounds as they played out a barren draw with Onduparaka FC on Wednesday.
The former’s head coach, John Luyinda Ayala did not hide his concerns as the Purple Sharks threw away an opportunity to stretch their lead at the Uganda Premier League log.
“The pitch was unplayable after the afternoon rains and I felt we needed to be direct in approach,” said Ayala to the media.
“The pitch was heavy and waterlogged and needed an approach and style than the usual one, so we had to ring changes with players we believe could adapt,” he added.
“The conditions of the pitch also didn’t favour our style but it’s a point and a clean sheet which is important,” reiterated Ayala.
Even with the conditions, the Purple dominated possession and goalscoring opportunities but didn’t take them, adding to even more frustration for the tactician.
“We had good chances to score especially in the first half and late in the game but it wasn’t to be our day,” noted Ayala.
Despite the stalemate, Wakiso Giants still top proceedings with 18 points in nine matches.
They will host seven-time champions Express FC in their next outing on November 29, at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
