Patrick Kakande scored from a stellar effort in the 83rd minute to guide SC Villa past wasteful Busoga United in a 1-0 victory at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday.
The guests had a chance to take an early in the game, but Dickson Niwamanya failed to convert Laban Tibita’s sweet delivery.
Niwamanya latched on a rebound and his left-footed shoot forced SC Villa custodian Martin Elungat in a spectacular save.
Jackson Magera made an early change calling off holding midfielder Pistis Barenge for forward Ivan Bogere, to establish more control of the game.
After recess, the hosts introduced Joseph Kafumbe to replace Fred Agandu who had struggled in the middle park in the opening stanza.
Busoga got another clinical chance through Tibiita but Elungat made a brave move to win the one-on-one challenge.
The challenge forced off Elungat after suffering a shoulder injury and Aslam Muhindo came in.
Kafumbe met a loose ball remaining with only a keeper to beat but his effort rose above the framework.
With seven minutes to play, Kakande met Bogere’s cross, went past his marker and shot at the far post to take the lead.
Kafumbe had a chance to extend the lead but he wasted yet another clinical chance.
The victory keeps Villa second with 10 points while Busoga United are 12th at three points on the 15-team log.
The Jogoo will return to action as they visit Bright Stars on Saturday, November 5 while Busoga will host Gaddafi on Tuesday, November 1.
