A Vipers SC victory over Express FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday will confirm the Venoms as the champions of the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
However, Express interim coach James Odoch believes that the Red Eagles can go to Kitende and spoil the party after realizing where Vipers hold strength.
“Vipers are good at scoring through crosses like it was the case in our last meeting,” Odoch told the club media ahead of the game.
“They scored through the wings so all we have to do, is cut off the wing supply but also we need to keep the ball more, so that we frustrate them.
“They are strong and an organized team but I am certain if we do the above well, we shall earn maximum points,” Odoch noted.
With five games left until the end of their season, Vipers are on 61 points, 14 points above second-placed KCCA FC who are on 47 points.
On the other hand, the defending champions are positioned sixth on the 16-team SUPL log with 42 points.
The reverse fixture between Vipers and Express ended in a two-all stalemate at Wankulukuku but the latter won the game 1-0 the last time they visited Kitende.
Viper’s head coach Roberto Oliveira will still miss the services of custodian Fabien Mutombora, midfielder Ibrahim Orit, and defender Paul Willa through their respective injuries.
Youngsters Najib Yiga and Jack Komakech are also unavailable given that they are still engaged with St Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende at the ongoing Schools’ Competition in Arua.
Meanwhile, Express will be without captain Enoch Walusimbi and Daniel Shabene through suspension.
Mahad Yaya Kakooza and Godfrey Lwesibawa are also absent while Murushid Juuko, Sadiq Ssekyembe, and Charles Musiige passed the late fitness test to feature.
