Onduparaka FC registered their maiden Uganda Premier League victory this season, after thumping UPDF 5-1 at AbaBet Greenlight Stadium, Arua on Wednesday.
It was a great evening for defender Denis Ojara, who was deployed by Steven Bogere upfront, and put the army side on the sword three times.
In the 14 games played, the Arua-based side has registered seven losses and six stalemates and this victory comes at the right time, as the league comes to the break, hence giving them a chance to re-strategize.
Visitors UPDF took the lead Nine minutes into the game, through Ezekiel Katende, who placed the ball past Onduparaka’s custodian Mathias Muwanga.
Six minutes later, Dominic Abonga levelled the matters after capitalizing on Gaddafi Gadinho’s sweet delivery to bring the hosts back into the game.
But, as the game unfolded, the Caterpillars faced a big blow when their goalkeeper Muwanga was forced to pave way for Norman Angufinduru due to an injury.
Onduparaka nearly took the lead moments later but Gadinho’s low powerful effort sailed inches wide of the left goalpost.
As halftime was loaming, Onduparaka took the lead after Emmanuel Oketch converted from the 12-yard spot to send the home fans on their feet.
Ten minutes after restart, Ojara extended Onduparaka’s lead with a spectacular strike. He cooled an aerial ball and looped it above Samson Kasozi into the corner.
A minute after the hour mark, Ojara completed a double after tapping home a dropping ball past UPDF custodian Simon Mabuya who was off his line.
In the 75th minute, Ojara completed a hattrick with a sweet well- weighed volley leaving Mabuya with less to do.
The victory leaves Onduparaka at the bottom of the log with seven points after 14 games played, while UPDF are 13th with 10 points.
