Denis Kaka Omony scored deep into stoppage time to cancel out George Ssenkaaba’s goal and grab a point for Bright Stars against Express FC in the Uganda Premier League game played at Wankulukuku on Friday.

Senkaaba tapped home Eric Kambale’s goal-bound effort in the 58th minute before Omony squeezed in a lever past custodian Joel Mutakubwa in the 89th minute.

Express FC started the game by trying to shoot from distance but both Ssenkaaba and Martin Kizza’s efforts could not rattle the back of the net, the former shot wide in the seventh minute while the latter was denied by goalkeeper Simon Tamale in the 11th minute.

The visitors got a chance in the 25th minute when Nelson Senkatuka dribbled past two Express defenders to find Marvin Youngman, who shot on target but Mutakubwa tipped the ball over.

In the second stanza, goalkeeper Tamale finger-tipped Godfrey Lwesibawa’s goal-bound corner kick in the 53rd minute to ensure safety for his side.

The hosts continued to press relentlessly to find an opener, and they were rewarded at the hour mark through Ssenkaaba.

Wasswa Bbosa’s charges went ahead searching for a second but an alert Tamale denied Kambale from a header in the 73rd minute.

Moments later, Express captain Enoch Walusimbi nearly gifted his former employers a goal when he wrongly timed the ball which found Senkatuka, but he could not capitalize on the former’s error.

But the visitors’ moment of magic would later arrive at the death mark when Youngman picked up Omony, who ran behind Walusimbi and scored into an empty net with Mutakubwa beaten to earn the away team a point.

The defending champions remained third on the UPL 16 team log with 27 points and will return to action on February 5 with a home tie against UPDF FC to kick start the second round.

Whilst Bright Stars FC also remain in the 14th position with 11 points and they will make a long trip to Arua to face Onduparaka FC on February 2 since the league is taking a month break.
