Police FC will be hoping to register their fifth consecutive victory when they host newbies Arua Hill SC in the Uganda Premier League at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Sunday, January 9.
The Cops started poorly, winless in the first 10 games, but they have not looked back since winning their first game against Busoga United, and they have gone on to win three more in a row.
Ahead of Sunday’s encounter, Police picked up a narrow 1-0 win over UPDF FC on the road the last time they were in action at the start of the year.
However, they face a tricky side in Arua Hill, who were also victorious at the turn of the year thanks to a 1-0 win against four-time champions Vipers SC.
Despite only being promoted at the beginning of this season, the Leopards have proved to be a strong team by beating giant sides in the likes of Vipers, defending champions Express FC and last term’s runners up URA FC.
The meeting with Police provides them with a chance to go level on points with Express who are on 27 in third should they win. The Kongolo are currently placed fifth with 24 points on the 16 team UPL log.
On the other hand, the 2005 UPL winners will also be targeting maximum points to finish the first round on a high, given how poor they started.
Currently, on 15 points in 11th position, Police can go into 10th with a win after 10th-placed SC Villa were held to a goalless draw by ninth placed UPDF FC on Saturday.
The Cops will rely on the service of striker Juma Balinya who has netted so far seven league goals but the most important one in each of the last five games.
Meanwhile, the Kongolo will be hoping Alfred Leku carries his scoring boots to Lugogo. Leku is also on seven goals and has generally been in brilliant form for the visiting team since they gained promotion.
Since this is Arua Hill’s maiden season in the topflight, it will be the first time they will be meeting with Police, and the winning team will have written its name in the history of this fixture.
