Tanzanian Premier League giants Azam FC and Zambian side Green Eagles FC have entered the race to sign KCCA FC defender Filbert Obenchan, Football256 has learnt.
According to a source around Lugogo, the two clubs have been monitoring the 23-year-old defender since July 2019 following a successful CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament with KCCA FC won in Rwanda.
With his contract coming to an end this month, KCCA FC are willing to offer him a new contract but this will depend on the outcome of the negotiations between the two parties.
Obenchan joined KCCA Soccer Academy in 2015 from Masaka based school Kimaanya before crossing to Army side Simba FC on loan during the 2016/17 season.
Following promising displays at Simba, Obenchan was recalled back at Lugogo and made his debut at the KCCA FC senior side in 2017.
Since then, he has won the Uganda Premier League title twice, one Uganda Cup, one Pilsner super title and one CECAFA Kagame Club Cup and just one cap.
In case he joins Azam, he will be the second Ugandan currently at the club after Nicholas Wadada while at Green Eagles, he will be the only foreigner at the Army side that currently uses only Zambians.
