It’s no longer news that Uganda cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho will stay for another season with Tanzanian traditional giants Yanga SC.

Daktari wa mpuiira‘ as he is fondly known by Yanga fans inked his one-year contract extension on Tuesday in Dar-es-Salaam and exclusively shared with Football256 why he chose to stay with “team ya Wananichi.”

“I chose to extend my contract with Yanga because I feel happy and supported at the club and I love to be where I am appreciated.”

“Although I had several offers on the table, I felt more comfortable here and I couldn’t compromise my happiness for anything hence the extension.”

“My football career has always been about me playing where I am appreciated because it gives me the strength to perform, I bet every footballer out there wants the same,” he added.

Aucho also adds that his target now is to help the team retain the titles they won last season and also guide Yanga as far as possible in the CAF confederations cup.

“I want to do my best to help the team retain the titles we won last season (domestic treble) but also ensure that we go as far as possible on the continent.”

Aucho also has goals: “Like any midfielder you want to register as many assists and score goals as much as possible but helping the team in any situation is the priority so I will take it game by game as I do my best.”

Aucho joined Yanga in 2021 and helped guide the side to a domestic treble last season along with reaching the group stages of the CAF confederations cup for the first time since 2016.

They are pooled in group D alongside US Monastirienne (Algeria), AS real de Bamako (Mali), and TP Mazembe (DR Congo).

Yanga are currently top of the Tanzanian league table with 50 points, six points ahead of archrivals Simba SC after 19 match days.
