KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi believes that it’s of great advantage to have depth in his club’s squad.
The gaffer said this during the official unveiling of Moses Kalanzi on Sunday, September 13, via KCCA FC TV show on Sanyuka TV.
Kalanzi signed a one-year deal with the Lugogo-based side and he is seen as Mustafa Kizza’s replacement who joined Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact, though the latter remains at the club on loan.
“We signed him to strengthen the team. If he works hard, he will play,” Mutebi said before adding.
“A big club must sign big players because the bigger the bench, the better,” he added.
KCCA FC finished last season second on the log with 50 points four behind eventual champions Vipers SC.
According to Mutebi, his side performed below par due to lack of depth in the squad which saw them finish the season trophy-less.
“Last season we suffered because we lacked squad depth but in this season, we want to be with three players in every position who are equally good,”
“It will give us variety and the luxury of choosing who is better to play on match day. There will be a time when we shall select Team A to play against URA FC and Team B to play Vipers SC.”
“I will keep on rotating the squad because it’s good to have young talented players who are equally good,” he noted.
Kalanzi joined new signings Ashraf Mugume, Brian Aheebwa, Charles Lwanga and Stefano Mazengo Loro.
Other additions include Denis Iguma, Bright Anukani, Samson Kigozi, Andrew Kawooya and Dominic Ayella who was promoted from the club’s junior team.
