Uganda Premier League side UPDF are in talks to sign BUL FC Goalkeeper Tom Ikara temporarily.
The Custodian joined the eastern giants in July last year from relegated Police FC on a two years deal but failed to command a starting place between the stick and he didn’t start any League match in the first round.
The former Kirinya Jinja SS (Busoga United), KCCA and Mbarara City shotstopper is down the pecking order, behind Emmanuel Kalyowa and Saidi Keni.
However, his signing will be a huge boost for the Army side which has struggled in that department.
UPDF who finished the first round 13th on the 15 team log with 10 points conceded a league high 26 goals and kept just one clean sheet in the goalless draw against Maroons at Bombo Barracks Ground.
With his experience, Ikara will surely be Brian Ssenyondo’s first choice Goalkeeper once the deal materialises.
UPDF never had any fit goalkeeper heading into the final first round match against Onduparaka, they lost 5-1 after both Simon Mabuya and Paul Akweny were injured while Ivan Mutumba went AWOL.
Ssenyondo’s side will kick off the second round away to Express at Wankulukuku Stadium on 11th February 2023.
