Barely a week after joining Turkish second-tier side Caykur Rizespor, Uganda Cranes forward, Farouk Miya has opened his goal account.
The 24-year-old a brace in his side’s 3-2 win over Torpedo Kutaisi in a friendly game played in Erzurum on Monday.
Miya joined Rizespor on Wednesday, July 13 last week following a period without a club. The former Vipers SC player signed a two-year contract with his new club.
Ukrainian side FC Lviv was the former Standard Liege player’s previous club but his stint there was short-lived due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
He is playing football in Turkey for the second stint having featured for Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig between 2019 and 2021.
Miya, finding a club is a relief to himself and the national team coach Milutin Micho Sredejovic following recent criticism when he was summoned without a club.
That wasn’t helped by a poor run in Cranes’ opening two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He played in a 2-0 defeat to Algeria and a 1-1 draw with Niger, he had earlier missed a penalty in the game against the Desert Foxes.
