The 2019 Pepsi University Football League runners-up St. Lawrence University (SLAU) have been drawn against Kampala University (KU) for the quarterfinals of the 2022 edition.
After learning his side’s quarterfinal opponents, SLAU’s assistant coach Fred Bakisuuza noted that their objective this year is to go all the way and win the crown but they will continue taking it a step at a time.
“We have come a long way and when one looks at our journey, surely we have improved a lot,” Bakisuuza told Football256.
“From the group stages, we faced strong teams in the likes of Makerere University but we managed to come out top.”
“In the quarterfinals, we have been drawn against Kampala University which is even stronger.”
“But looking at our progress, we are hopeful that this could be the year that we also get to win our first UFL title.”
“It is still a long way and we shall take it step by step but having reached the final last time out, our focus is to do better this season,” he noted.
SLAU finished top of Group D with 11 points whilst KU emerged second in Group E with 10 points, qualifying as one of the best two second-placed teams – the other being Nkumba University.
As SLAU continues to look for its maiden UFL title, their opponents KU have won it twice.
KU is level on two titles with Makerere University Business School (MUBS) as the two most successful institutions in this competition.
Quarterfinal Draw: KU vs SLAU, Kyambogo vs MUBS, Nkumba vs UCU, Bugema vs UMU
