Goals by Lucky Johnson, Adrien Kambale and Frank Mugoma redeemed Bugema’s chances of going through to the quarter finals of the 2019 Pepsi University Football League as they defeated Nkumba 3-2 on Good Friday in Entebbe.
Bugema were docked four points and four goals for indiscipline from last season going into this season but they’ve enjoyed a fine season so far winning four of their last five UFL games.
“I appreciate the motivation my players had today and I urge them for the same against Bishop Stuart University if we are to go through to the quarter finals,” Bugema’s coach Meddie Nyanzi hailed his players before adding.
“This was a do or die affair for us because we were docked four points and four goals but I’m happy that we were up to the challenge with 3-2 victory.”
The loss means Nkumba blew their chances of going through to the quarter finals, they will have to wait until the final day of the group stage.
“We had a chance to through today but we didn’t due to the poor display of my players and we’ll have to accept and build on that as we visit YMCA in our final group A game,” Nkumba head coach Patrick Ssebuliba said.
With all teams still in contention to qualify apart from Bishop Stuart University, anxious fans will have to wait until the last day of action in Group A to know whether it will be YMCA, Nkumba or Bugema going through to the last eight.
