Kyambogo University made short work of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), at the neutral UCU grounds in Mukono, in their Group A encounter in the Pepsi University Football league.
Kyambogo was 4-1 victory on the day over a hugely disappointing MUST. Peter Mukwata and Robert Sekidde’s double put the hosts 3-0 up by half time, while Tom Adele made it four moments into the second half.
MUST pulled a goal back through Lino Agaba in second-half added time following a quick counter-attack that saw him dribble past Kyambogo custodian Ivan Kalyowa and passed the ball into an empty net.
MUST started stronger but failed to utilize their opportunities, Gift Akemkwene drew a top save from Kyambogo’s custodian Ivan Kalyowa, with his defenders on hand to clear the ball for a corner.
Moments later, Kyambogo captain Patrick Kawooya cleared the ball off the line, with Kalyowa well beaten by Lino Agaba’s fierce half volley. While Agaba again lobbed over the goalkeeper but defender Solomon Obwong was on hand to keep out the effort.
As the game went on, Kyambogo grew more in confidence and started to control the tempo and flow of the game as Robert Ssekidde met Peter Mukwata’s cross but his weak header was easy for James Othieno to save.
Despite the last-minute counter-attack, Kyambogo looked more composed defensively thus conceding once while they were on the back foot for the final fifteen minutes of the game.
Kyambogo University’s win has taken them on top of group A on goal difference, Kabale University and MUST are second and third respectively while the University of Kisubi is bottom of the group.
Meanwhile, the University of Kisubi will host Kabale University in Entebbe on March 1, 2020, in the other Group A matchday two game.
