Uganda Christian University (UCU) beat Makerere University Business School 3-0 on Thursday in Mukono to finish top of Group D in the 2019 Pepsi University League with a game to spare.

Derrick Mbowa put the hosts ahead with a deflected short from 25 yards before Brian Ade added the second and there after Ezra Kaaye Kizito capitalized from a clumsy blunder by Davis Arinda to score the third.

Victory took UCU to 11 points and first position on the Group D log, one point ahead of second placed MUBS with a game to spare.

UCU are the only side in the competition this season not to have conceded a single goal as we head into the quarter finals.

“We’ve not played well today as we wanted because this fixture has been called off on several occasions but it’s of good luck that we’ve finally won it,” UCU head coach Jimmy Kintu told www.football-256.com.

“We didn’t concede yet again meaning we’ve played all our group stage games so far with clean sheets which is a great achievement.”

“And we’ve finished top not because we were supposed to, but because we entirely fought for it,” Kintu added.

This was MUBS’ heaviest defeat of the season, they’ve won none of their last five games against UCU loosing thrice and drawing twice.

“It’s been a rough afternoon for us as we’ve lost hilariously to UCU but our major aim was to go through no matter how. I am happy to tell you that we are ready for anyone we find in the quarters,” MUBS coach Charles Ayiekoh said after the game.

In other group D results, KU drew 0-0 with IUEA. Other teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals are Uganda Martyrs (UMU), ST Lawrence, Kyambogo and Busitema
