Uganda Cranes defender Richard Kasagga Jjuuko has officially signed a two-year deal with Indian top tier division club I-League Aizawl Football Club located in Mizoram.
Kasagga confirmed the news before his club also posted on their official website with delight about their new acquisition.
“I am at Aizwal Football Club and cannot wait to have my debut. I am grateful for whoever helped me realise this dream,” said Kasagga who mid last year survived a fatal car accident with mere scratches.
“We have signed a Ugandan Giant to solidify our defense line,” read a statement on the club’s website.
“Juuko Richard Kassaga has represented his country 37 times and has been the leading commander in the defense line. Welcome Kassaga, All the Best!”
Formed on February 14, 1984, Aizawl Football Club earned promotion to India’s top-tier league, I-League in 2015 after winning the 2015 I-League 2nd Division and are currently coached by Robert Keith Stockdale.
Kassaga has played for clubs like Lyantonde, Kira Young, KCCA and most recent Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in Uganda.
He also had spells in Lebanon with Salam Zgharta Football Club featuring in nine Lebanese Premier League matches and seven Asian Football Confederation games.
On the national team, Kassaga had won over 30 caps having played a couple of matches for the Uganda Cranes in AFCON and CHAN qualifiers, CECAFA championships, CHAN 2014 and 2016 tournaments and international friendly matches.
