Ahead of the friendly match against South Africa on June 10, Uganda Cranes head coach Abdallah Mubiru summoned a 34 man squad, and among these are three Express FC players.

Defenders Murushid Juuko and Enock Walusimbi, and forward Eric Kambale were selected from the Wankulukuku based side.

But according to head coach Wasswa Bbosa more players should have been summoned from the Betway sponsored side.

“I am happy for those that were given the opportunity to represent the national team, but still, I believe more others should have been summoned from our team,” Bbosa told the club’s media before adding.

“Truth be told, a lot of players have performed well, and seven or eight should have been summoned because previously at some teams, that has been the case.”

“Yes I must say congratulations to Kambale, Walusimbi and Juuko, but that is a less number compared to the number of players we have had performing well all season long, and I am not that impressed,” he added.

Juuko has been a usual suspect of the national team, while club captain Walusimbi and Kambale will be representing the country for the first time.

“It is a pleasure to have a chance with the national team. I am also happy for my other two teammates, Juuko and Kambale who, have also been summoned. I know we shall represent our club well while on national duty,” Walusimbi said.

Juuko and Walusimbi have been solid in Express’ backline that has shipped in only 13 league goals this season – the least of any other team after 26 games.

On the other side of the pitch, Kambale has been influential upfront netting in goals game in game out for the Red Eagles.

Of the 33 players, 23 are locally based, with Vipers taking the most slots (seven), Express, KCCA and URA all have three representatives,

Police and Bright Stars all have two representatives while Villa, Busoga, Mbarara and BUL have one each.

The team will enter camp on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi. Training starts on Monday, May 31, 2021, at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
