Uganda Cup: Advantage Express ahead of the semifinal return leg

Express scored that priceless away goal against Bright Stars in the first leg seminal of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Mwererwe.

Michael Birungi at the start of the start half puts the 10 winners of the competition in the driving seat but that lead was canceled out by Nelson Ssenkatuka from 12 yards.

It’s that away goal that Express and George Ssimwogerere will build on ahead of the return leg on Thursday at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku.

“I have already showed them what we are made of in the league,” Ssimwogerere said referring to the 3-1 win at Wankulukuku in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

“They will be coming with fear after what happened the last time they were at Wankulukuku. And we will capitalize on that to reach the finals, am very confident,” he added.

Express’s striker Eric Kambale, goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga defenders Hamis Batega and Arthur Kiggundu are doubts for Thursday’s game due to injuries.

The Red Eagles have won the Uganda Cup a record 10 times, a stat they share with KCCA, the last time Express played at this was in 2017, they were eliminated by KCCA 3-2 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Bright Stars are in the semifinals for the first time in their history, the winner of the competition will represent Uganda in the Total 2019/2020 Total CAF Confederations Cup.

The winner between the two sides will take on Proline FC in the final to be played at Masaka Recreation Ground on May 25th.

Proline overcame Mukono based Kyetume FC at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Sunday to reach their first Uganda Cup final in the club’s history

The Shafic Bisaso coached side won the first leg 2-1 in Mukono and lost the second leg at Lugogo with the same score line before sealing the tie 4-3 in the post-match spot kicks.
