Uganda Cup defending champions Proline FC are hungry to retain the title.
They have exhibited the same spirit in beating Mbale Heroes home and away to make it to the last eight of the competition they won in 2019.
Proline is still the defending champions having won the 2019 tournament when they beat Bright Stars FC in shootouts in a final held at Masaka Recreation ground because the 2019/20 edition was abandoned due to the outbreak of COVID19.
After defeating Mbale Heroes at Lugogo, Proline carried a 2-1 aggregate to Mbale where Ibrahim Sendi added the important goal to earn a quarter final berth.
Proline captain Noordin Bunjo and Savio Kabugo scored for the Proline at Lugogo as Mbale Heroes’ captain Jamaldine Buchochera headed in a very important away goal towards the end of the game.
Unlike in the first leg where Buchochera heroically gave the Surgeons some hope of qualifying, Mbale Heroes failed to find the back of the net at home. Going out on a 3-1 aggregate deficit to Proline.
Both teams finished the game with a man less as Proline’s Norman Kugonza and Joshua Opima for Mbale Heroes were sent off in the second half.
