Vipers SC progressed to the quarter-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup despite playing to a 1-1 stalemate in the second leg of their Stanbic Uganda Cup against UPDF FC.
The 2016 winners sailed through courtesy of a 4-2 aggregate after taking the tie advantage last Friday with a 3-1 victory at the Bombo Barracks Stadium.
At the St. Mary’s Stadium on Monday afternoon, as was the case was in Bombo, the visitors took the lead off Joseph Bright Vuni’s header in the 10th minute to pose an early scare to the Venoms.
With the tie open at 3-2, the home side drew the game level, extending their aggregate lead after 23 minutes. Bobosi Byaruhanga’s corner evaded every one and sailed straight into the back of then net.
At the moment, the tie looked stretched from Kefa Kisala’s side and it’s Fred Kajoba’s troops that sought for the day’s winner.
Captain Halid Lwalilwa missed by inches from long range before marksman Ceasor Manzoki missing a clear-cut chance before halftime.
In the second half, it was more of trying to close out the fixture by Vipers. There was not a whole lot to report as UPDF’s journey was forced to an end.
The venoms are now in the last eight and will hope to further go on to lift only their second Uganda Cup in their history.
