Uganda Cranes secured a place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in a manner that few would imagine they would.

On Saturday 17th, 2018, Uganda defeated Cape Verde 1-0, which was their fourth win of the campaign in five games.

All Uganda needed was a draw against the West African but the 77th-minute header from KCCA striker Patrick Kaddu ensured the Cranes bagged all the three points.

Uganda picked all six points off Cape Verde having defeated them 1-0 in the opening game of the campaign last year.

Uganda has also picked six points off Lesotho to top group L with 13 points having settled for a goalless draw against Tanzania at Namboole.

With the game against Tanzania next year on March a formality, Uganda was the first team this year to secure qualification without conceding a goal in the five games.

Inspirational skipper Denis Onyango in goal with the back line of Godfrey Walusimbi and Nicholas Wadada on the flanks together with Hassan Wasswa and Murushid Juuko will boast of a job well done so far.

Denis Iguma and Khalid Aucho were also mainstays in the middle of the park to make sure the back four is not troubled.

The campaign also gave birth to fresh blood on Moses Waiswa and Patrick Kaddu whose pertinence have repaid the patience Sebastien Desabre had in them.

It was Miya who came to live in the two games against Lesotho having had a dull start at the campaign not forgetting Emmanuel Okwi having missed the flight to Gabon.

This will be the seventh time Uganda will be making an appearance at the games, having been finalists in 1978 which remains their best performance so far.
