Uganda Cranes and Express FC forward Brian Umony certainly has been to hell and back. When the striker suffered a career threatening injury while playing for Ethiopian giants St George two years ago, many thought it was all over for the 29 year old but it’s not the case as yet.
The 2008 league MVP is back but taking it a game at a time, Umony who joined 6 time league champions Express FC on a short term deal until the end of the season.
The striker opened his goal account on Wednesday as Express beat Nyamityobora 2-0 at Kakyeka in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Umony scored the second goal with two minutes left after fellow new recruit Frank Tumwesigye Zaga had opened the scoring.
“It was very important for me to score, as a striker you get more confident when you get onto the score sheet a jovial Umony said in an exclusive interview with www.football-256.com.
“The boys played well, it was down to collective effort and am sure it will spur the team’s momentum going forward,” he added.
On how his recovery has been, the soft spoken striker highlighted belief and focus which has kept him going.
“It has been a long road, a tough one but deep in me I knew I’ll get back on my feet, but it’s also the support from my family and fans that kept me going, am back now so let’s see what the future holds” he added.
Umony has featured in all of Express FC’s second round Uganda Premier league games this season, starting once and coming off the bench in the other two.
The win took the Red Eagles to 10th with 24 points, a spot and three points above arch rivals S.C Villa.
Express will turn their attention to the Stanbic Uganda Cup, they host Police FC on February 18th at the Betway Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, but it will be Maroon in their next league outing.
