Umony, Zaga give Ssemwogerere breathing space

When George Ssemwogerere was scheming for the Express FC coaching job, he gave all indicators that he was right man and no one could do it better than him.

And his wish was finally granted on February 5th when he replaced Kefa Kisala who was sacked the previous day because of a poor run of results.

After just five days with the team his first outing was against BUL FC in Njeru, Express lost the game to a Jean Pierre Kambale strike in added time.

It was Express’ third straight loss in the league and a seventh overall, with Kakyeka their next stop to take on struggling Nyamityobora.

Express came out on top with goals from new recruits Brian Umony and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye giving the Red Eagles a 2-0 victory and breathing space for their former captain.

“It wasn’t an easy game but my players played so well,” Ssemwogerere told the club website, he later added

“They (Express players) had fatigue coming from Njeru on Sunday and playing again here away on Wednesday but they recovered very well to get all three points, if we go like that we shall win many games.”

Ssemwogerere was delighted that despite his game approach that had him field six defenders, there was a bit of creativity in the team especially from Zaga.

“Zaga was superb. In the first half he created four goal scoring opportunities so he deserved a goal and I hope he will be fine when we play Police. Brian was good as well and got a real striker’s goal.”

Express’ next attention will be against Police FC on February 18th at the Betway Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16.

The last time Express played at home, Police defeated them 2-0 and that led to the sacking of coach Kefa Kisala.
